Want to tan responsibly? It's possible! 7 tips to get a nice healthy tan.
Everything looks better on you if you have a summer tan. But how do we do that responsibly and healthily? With these tips you will get a beautiful tan faster and in a responsible way.
1. Make-up with SPF factor
The laziest way to incorporate sunscreen into your routine: make sure it's incorporated into products you already use. (e.g. tinted day cream) Apply this liberally like a real sunscreen.
mineral make-up from Modern Minerals and the CC cream from Madara, contain natural sun protection due to zinc oxides and titanium dioxides.
2. Always use broad spectrum
It's important to look past the SPF and make sure the label on your sunscreen says "broad spectrum." The SPF rating standardizes how effective sunscreens are at protecting against the sun's UV rays (UVB). Remember that SPF only covers UVB rays, not the ultraviolet A (UVA) rays (which are more likely to cause wrinkles and skin aging than skin cancer per se, although it can also contribute to the development of melanoma). For this reason, you should always purchase a sunscreen product that says 'broad spectrum'. This means that it has a protection class against both UVA and UVB rays.
3. Apply regularly and stay in the shade occasionally
Don't be fooled by the false sense of security provided by a high SPF, but reapply every two hours. It is also best to take regular breaks in the shade. It's important to remember that sunscreen is only one part of a comprehensive UV protection program and you should take other measures as well. It is best to always wear a hat, sit under an umbrella as much as possible and avoid peak times for sun exposure. Try not to burn your skin because that causes premature skin aging and increases your risk of skin cancer.
4. Carefully look at the ingredients and choose mineral sunscreen
Avoid the following substances in your sunscreen as much as possible: oxybenzone and methylisothiazolinone. These are ingredients that could potentially be considered harmful and studies have shown that these substances can potentially disrupt the endocrine system. Oxybenzone can cause allergic reactions on the skin and methylisothiazolinone is a preservative that could also cause an allergy over time.
Mineral ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide work differently than chemicals such as oxybenzone. Mineral sunscreen is also called physical sunscreen. Physical barriers, reflect the UV rays and bounce them away from the skin. They act as reflectors of UVA and UVB. Chemical sunscreens are converted into heat and evaporate. Several studies have shown that mineral sunscreens are the safest option. They don't penetrate your skin, so you don't have the same concerns about hormone disruptions.
Mineral sun filters are also often better tolerated and rarely cause allergic reactions. As far as sun protection is concerned, these minerals are just as effective as the chemical variant.
5. Exfoliate!
You've probably heard that it's great to exfoliate your skin. But did you know that it also makes you tan faster? By removing the dead skin cells, your skin is cleaner and there is nothing on it to block the sun's rays. Moreover, your tan lasts longer. Handy, right?
6. Hydrate your skin
If you expose your skin to the sun, nothing is more important than a good moisturizer. It nourishes your skin and repairs the damage caused by the sun's rays. Healthy skin tans much better and faster, just apply it!
7. Eat yourself healthy and tan
Carotene in carrots ensures that we tan faster. If you eat two carrots a day, the substance would have a positive influence on our tan. Eating tomatoes is also said to have a beneficial effect on the color of our skin.
Vitamin D has a positive effect on our bones but also on the sun! Vitamin D also provides sun protection from within and reduces the risk of skin cancer. Choose oily fish!
